40c Charlotte Profile

Date of Issue: September 25, 1931


Ten different cards were issued with this general design, each with a different town view in the top-left corner. The printed stamp features a profile of Grand Duchess Charlotte and has a denomination of 40c, the inland postcard rate at the time.

The 10 different views are of Ansembourg, Clervaux, Diekirch, Echternach, Grevenmacher, Luxembourg, Mondorf-les-Bains, Mullerthal, Vianden, and Wiltz.


35 on 40c Charlotte Profile

Date of Issue: 1935


The 10 cards in this set are identical to those in the previous set except that the stamps have been overprinted "35" in black. This was done when the inland postcard rate was reduced to 35c from 40c in February, 1935.

75c Charlotte Profile

Date of Issue: September 25, 1931


Six different cards were issued with this general design, each with a different town view in the top-left corner. The printed stamp features a profile of Grand Duchess Charlotte and has a denomination of 75c, the postcard rate to France and Germany at the time.

The six different views are of Clervaux, Echternach, Luxembourg, Mondorf-les-Bains, Mullerthal, and Vianden.


35 on 75c Charlotte Profile

The six cards in this set are identical to those in the previous set except that the stamps have been overprinted "35" in black. In addition, beneath the view are two drawings of the potato beetle (mature insect and larva), and a bilingual warning message:

   Le doryphore des pommes de terre menace l'agriculture et l'horticulture
   Der Kartoffelkäfer bedroht unsern Feld- und Gartenbau
   [The potato beetle threatens our agriculture and horticulture]
